The Girl Who Would Not Shut Up (Or, Emerald City Comic Con)
I didn’t write about it during the con, because I was too busy yammering and squee’ing; but i suppose I better put SOMETHING up about it. I’ve been to ECCC before several years ago when it was in… I think the Qwest Stadium? And I didn’t have a lot of fun. It was really before I’d gotten into webcomics, and way before I was serious about my design degree.
This time was different. It was in the Convention Center, and holy crap, I had a good time. I went with my Dungeons and Dragons boys, and I guess it was just the right combination of factors to make it awesome. My scooter (for the foot ouchness), which I feared would be a liability, was actually not a big deal! I was able to navigate the convention halls with relative ease. Also? For some reason, I could not shut up. It was impossible.
As in, I was caught on camera blabbing mercilessly to poor Aaron Diaz of Dresden Codak. In the comic by Chris Yates, I occupy TWO panels of their Saturday. Two. I’m mightily embarrassed, but damn was that man entertaining. I spent most of my time at the con in full-on fangirl frenzy. I don’t know what came over me. I was completely dumbstruck talking to Mike and Jerry of Penny Arcade, ACTUALLY squee’d talking to Danielle Corsetto of Girls with Slingshots (and she squee’d back! Danielle is SO AWESOME in person!!), and could not bring myself to even speak to Jeph Jacques or Scott Kurtz. Damn it. I wish I’d seen that camera. I’m embarrassed every time I look at that image. ^_^
Other cool people I met were Steve Niles, who I didn’t know was the author of 30 Days of Night until I’d been talking to him for a few minutes (my friend Daniel was totally geeking out about him, too). He’s a really cool guy, and we talked for a solid 20 minutes, I would say. The guys at Neo Trash Comix were frickin’ cool, too! The more I write, the most I realize that it was a blur of my mouth flapping gaily at a multitude of artists. I totally geeked out over their printing processes, asked them about the media they used, discussed subscription vs. premium vs. free sites… I was almost a grown up! Oh, and I can’t forget Psycho Guitar Killers, who had the Big Shiny Guitar that I couldn’t ignore as I wheeled past.
I was there for the whole weekend, and I’m glad. I am STILL tired from it. I’ll scan the sketches some folks did for me; but for now, I must bug out. Hopefully, the photo above was the only documentation of my shameful prancing puppiness at the con…
